I <3 Capes

Capes and trapeze coats are so classic and a great addition to any wardrobe.  I found this one at an amazing vintage store in the Lower East Side.  It was a bit more expensive then some of the current ones on the market, but I fell in love with its classic Scottish tailoring (can you say Sherlock Holmes?).   The only issue with these lovely coats is they have a very short window that they can be worn (especially on the East Coast), although this one is all wool it’s just not nearly as warm as a winter coat.  On the plus side, the loose fitting asymmetrical shape makes it easy tohide  layers underneath.  If you’re in the market for  one American Apparel currently has some cute ones for under $100 as well as Uniqlo

wearing- cape vintage, faux leather jacket Target, pashmina Italy (gift), jeans f21, boots Steve Madden, clutch F21 (gift), jewelry Henry Bendel and Tiffany & Co, rings H&M

a family affair

One of the reasons I have been so bad about updating my blog is because my family came to visit earlier this month!  For those of you who don’t know I have an older sister (we’re two years apart)  who is my best friend and partner in crime.  She also has a blog, click here to check it out.  It has been really hard on us to live so far apart (she’s in Scottsdale) so when she decided last min. to come visit I couldn’t have been more thrilled.

How to [video tutorial]

POPSUGAR  is one of my main resources for pop culture, mostly of the celebrity gossip variety.  They also have some great fashion features including this video how to on winter fashion.  Click here to check out what FABSUGAR has to say about layering up for winter.  Although these outfits are supercute, they are still not quite warm enough for the below freezing weather we have been experiencing!

Chestnuts roasting [on a street cart]

During the holidays one of my favorite activities is walking along 5th Ave. to gaze at the beautiful store window displays, the famous tree at Rockefeller Center, ice skating at Bryant Park, and a quick stop into The Plaza hotel for a hot chocolate.   The only drawback to this endeavor is the temperature.  I love experiencing the winter (since I am a Cali girl) however, 20 degrees feels very chilly.  If you are planning to spend a day outdoors layering is key.  I am still struggling with how to do this and look fashionable instead of like the Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man.  My mom bought me this Russian inspired faux fur hat, which is cute and practical.  What are some of your favorite winter pieces?

I love that the street carts roast chestnuts to get in the holiday spirit!

it’s Christmas time… in the city!

Merry Christmas to All

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday!  This is the second year in a row that we stayed in the city for Christmas, however last year we had family in town.  This was our very first Christmas with just the two of us.  Although we missed our family, it was very lovely and peaceful spending the holiday alone.  We had our good friends over for Christmas Eve and I made a beef stew and cranberry apple crisp for dessert.  Today we did a lot of cooking, watching Christmas movies, and a wonderful stroll through the park.  How did you spend your holiday?

Thankful [a friend filled feast]

A time for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and this year we decided not to go back to California for the Holidays.  Luckily for us, some of our close friends had the same idea.

We spent the day cooking, laughing, and gaming..
